The Potluck (2022)
Performance
The Potluck is a collective performance led by Sojin Kim and Min Kyung Kim. The performance takes the form of a Korean ancestral ritual, Jesa, but revises its patriarchal structure, transforming it into a new format where labor is not solely burdened by women but distributed among participants. This alternative takes the form of a potluck, where participants bring food prepared with care, collaboratively set up the ritual, and share a communal meal at the end.
The performance commemorates Sojin’s late family members, introduces her new Berlin friends to her ancestors, and extends wishes for the well-being of both parties.
